July 2026 Market Wrap & August Outlook: Can Nifty Break Above 24,550?

The final week of July brought renewed confidence to the Indian stock market. After ending the previous week on a weak note, Nifty found support around the 23,600 region and recovered sharply throughout the week.

By Friday's close, the index had regained almost the entire previous week's loss, finishing the week with strong gains and giving the monthly chart a much healthier appearance.

Since July 31st marked both the weekly and monthly closing, this week's price action becomes even more significant for traders and investors planning their strategy for August.

Institutional Activity

One of the biggest positives this week was continued institutional buying.

  • FII Net Buying (July 27–31): ₹5,253.94 Crore
  • DII Net Buying (July 27–31): ₹5,689.47 Crore

Even more encouraging, Foreign Institutional Investors ended the entire month of July as net buyers of nearly ₹20,200 crore, indicating improving confidence in Indian equities.

What Drove This Week's Recovery?

The recovery was supported by multiple factors rather than a single event.

The market respected an important trendline support near the 23,600 level, which encouraged buyers to step back into the market. Some amount of short covering also appeared to contribute to the sharp move higher.

Sector leadership played an important role.

IT and Pharma stocks remained the strongest performers during the week and provided healthy support to the broader market.

Global sentiment also improved after crude oil prices cooled as geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United States eased.

Meanwhile, the US Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged at 3.50%–3.75%, reducing uncertainty for global markets.

Together, these factors helped improve overall market sentiment.

Technical Outlook: Nifty

From a technical perspective, Nifty has once again moved back into the broader trading range that has been developing over the past several weeks.

The immediate resistance zone remains around 24,500–24,550.

A decisive closing above this area could open the path toward 25,100 in the coming weeks.

However, traders should remember that resistance levels often attract profit booking, making confirmation more important than anticipation.

One additional observation on the weekly chart is the possibility of a large symmetrical triangle developing over the past few months.

If this structure eventually breaks out with strong confirmation, it could lead to a meaningful medium-term trend. On the other hand, a rejection near resistance may keep the market range-bound or trigger a deeper correction.

At this stage, the pattern is worth watching—but not trading in anticipation.

Bank Nifty: Still Waiting for Confirmation

Unlike Nifty, Bank Nifty remained relatively quiet during the week after the sharp decline following banking sector earnings.

The index respected the 56,000 region, which acted as an important support due to the combination of technical levels, Fibonacci support, and psychological importance.

The weekly candle formed a bullish hammer, suggesting buyers defended lower levels.

The next important hurdle remains around 57,800–58,000.

Until Bank Nifty closes decisively above this zone, traders should avoid assuming that a fresh uptrend has already begun.

Global Risk Every Trader Should Watch

One international event deserves attention.

South Korea's KOSPI has experienced an extraordinary correction in recent weeks, driven largely by excessive leverage.

According to reports, retail investors suffered massive losses after heavy margin positions were forced into liquidation.

While India's market structure is different, the increasing use of Margin Trading Facility (MTF) among retail participants is also becoming noticeable.

This does not necessarily indicate an immediate risk, but it serves as an important reminder that excessive leverage can amplify market declines whenever sentiment changes.

Crystal's View for Next Week

The overall momentum has clearly improved.

Institutional buying remains supportive, sector participation has broadened, and price action has strengthened significantly compared to last week.

However, Nifty is now approaching one of its most important resistance zones.

Rather than chasing prices near resistance, traders should wait for confirmation.

If Nifty manages to sustain above 24,550 on a closing basis, the probability of an extension toward 25,100 improves.

If the breakout fails, especially while the Market Mood Index remains above 73 (Extreme Greed Zone), a sharp corrective move cannot be ruled out.

For now, a disciplined approach with small bullish positions and strict risk management appears more appropriate than aggressive buying.

Crystal Weekly Outlook

Momentum is positive, but don't chase the rally near resistance. Wait for confirmation, respect risk management, and focus on quality trading opportunities rather than emotional buying.

Final Thoughts

July ended on a much stronger note than many traders expected after the weakness seen in the previous week.

As August begins, the market stands near an important decision point. A confirmed breakout could strengthen the ongoing bullish momentum, while rejection near resistance may lead to another period of consolidation.

Instead of predicting the future, traders should focus on following price, respecting risk, and allowing the market to confirm its next move.
